Monday
Extract 1 : Read Rabbit Hutch to your child. Discuss the way the task is broken down into daily and weekly procedures.
Identify the way sequence is shown by numbered steps. Locate the two sub heading and tow sets of steps. Complete Rabbit, rabbit!
Tuesday
Extract 2 : Read Fruit Delight to your child. Discuss why the order of steps is so important in texts like recipes. For example, the sauce needs to be made before it can be poured over the ice cream. Highlight the linking words such as First ...Next... Now... Finally Complete Seven steps activity.
Wednesday
Extract 3 : Create a Cress Caterpillar - Focus on the pictures and orally explain how to create a cress caterpillar. Read the instructions and complete the 'Job Done ' worksheet.
Thursday
Cycle safety - Read the speech bubbles, they all refer to staying safe when cycling on the road, but they are not written as instructions. Your task is to rewrite the bubble as instructions. Use the sentence pattern.. Look all around..Stop before... Always wear a helmet....
Friday
Read each extract and decide where they might see these instructions. A is from a recipe that might appear in a recipe book, on a cereal packet or on a website.
Extension activity : Focus on the idea of an obstacle race. Think of verbs to go with the obstacles - for example skip, jump, and crawl... bounce on the hopper. Complete 'Ready set, go!'
