Literacy

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to our new HOME LEARNING activities for this week.

This week our new sound / letter is r

Please 'click' on the links for:

* Mr Thorne - episode r

* Let's get Squiggling - r

* Letter r songs. & stories

Letter r is a FAT letter that sits on the line.  It is a SHORT sound when you say it.

Letter 'r' starts at the top, down to the bottom (don't lift your pencil) back up nearly to where you stated and bend over to the right and STOP!  (it is nearly like letters n an m except you stop and don't come down to the line.)

DAILY ACTIVITIES

Use your whiteboard to practise writing the letter r on your whiteboard - don't forget to start at the side!!!

Use your finger to write the letter r on your mummy's back.

Use your finger to write the letter r in the air.

Look for things that have the r sound around your house - can you make a set of 'r' things?

If possible, make r with playdoh, long laces, string, counters - whatever you have!!!

WRITTEN ACTIVITIES in TSD BOOK

MONDAY --> Say the r sound.  Say each word.  Match the pictures that begin with the r sound to the big r.

WEDNESDAY --> Say each sound.  Say each word.  Match each picture to the sound it begins with.

Can you make these words that have our new letter with your letter cards??

Each new word can be made by changing only 1 sound/letter starting from the original word as you move along.  This is called 'Word Generation' and is very important.  It is also great fun - the children begin to realise just how many new words they can make, read and write!!

After you have made the words with your letter cards, can you write them on your whiteboards??  I'll bet you can!!
