Star of the Week

Mr Kelly had two stars of the week in primary 4 this week. Katie Phillips was Mr Kelly's first star of the week for her fantastic literacy work. James Warnock was his second star of the week for his amazing numeracy work on time. We are super proud of the efforts of both Katie and James this week. Keep up the good work!

Just One Tree Day

Each class today took part in plating a tree for ‘Just One Tree Day’. We all also wore green today to celebrate this. The tree that our primary 4 class planted was called a Malus’ Tree and we each had a turn of shovelling some soil back into the ground as part of the planting process. Our tree has lots of lovely little crab apples on them that will then blossom into lovely white and pink flower in Spring time. We can’t wait to watch our tree grow.

Time

This week in numeracy, we have been learning all about time. We started off by recapping on o’clock and half past. We remembered that when the big hand is at 12, it is o’clock and when the big hand is at 6, it is half past. We then went onto look at changing analogue to digital times and vice versa.

After this we began to look at quarter past and quarter to. We came up with different ways to try to help us remember quarter past and quarter to when telling the time. We also learned a new rhyme to help us remember. The boys and girls listened to a time being called out before showing that time on individual clocks. We then had a go at writing the time on our whiteboards both in analogue and in digital time. We found quarter to, the more challenging time to understand so lots of practice of this at home would be great!

Mr Kelly's Star of the Week

This week, we had a boy and a girl star of the week. Mr Kelly presented the two children with their certificates and awards today and we are so proud of their work this week.

Hollie received her Star of the Week for her fantastic reading and effort she is putting into sentence writing, both at home and in school.

Mark received his Star of the Week For learning his times tables and actively engaging in quick recall of mental maths questions in class. Well done to you both!

Rain Makers

This week we have been making rain makers as part of our Weather topic. As a class, we came up with ideas as to what the best materials would be to make our rain makers. We decided on toilet roll holders, tin foil, rice, elastic band and tissue paper. We followed lots of instructions carefully to make our rain makers and had lots of fun doing so. It really does sound like rain!

Star's of the Week

This week we have two fantastic Star's in our class. This week we have Ella-Rose and Tiorleach, who were presented with their Star of the Week Certificates, stickers and pencils from Mr Kelly. They also got a little treat from Miss Trimble! Well done you two!
