ICT and Numeracy - Scratch
Today we visited the ICT suite to complete a task on coding. To do this, we used the app called ‘Scratch’. We linked this in with our maths lesson as we were learning about tessellation. We have also been learning about angles. We had to enter in certain codes which would enable us to make a square and then to tessellate it four times. The codes and commands we entered were things such as turn 90 degrees clockwise and move forward 100 steps. The boys and girls got this hang of this very quickly and did a fantastic job! Feel free to do this at home as well as this can be accessed through the My School page.

Making Shortbread
We had a very busy day taking part in lots of maths activities to end the week. As we have been looking at measure as part of our maths target, we decided to make shortbread. This takes in lots of aspects of measure as well as many other areas of maths. We looked at different types of scales and noticed that our instructions were in grams and oz. We had to figure out how to convert these and the best type of scale to use to help us measure out our ingredients. We each then designed a maths symbol into our piece of shortbread! They tasted delicious!
