Hi Everyone,

Welcome to our new HOME LEARNING activities for this week.

This week are consolidating our  sounds / letters g  and  k

Please 'click' on the links for:

* Mr Thorne - episode g  and  k

* Let's get Squiggling - g  and  k

* Letter g  and  k songs. & stories

Letter g is a TAILS letter that sits on the line then has a tail that falls below like a swing

It is a SHORT, QUIET sound when you say it.

Letter 'k' starts at the top all the to the bottom and stop.  Put your pencil in the middle and shoot for the sky.  PUt your pencil in the middle and kick for the ground.

Letter k is a TALL letter that sits on the line but is nice and tall.

It is a SHORT, QUIET sound when you say it. - be careful - it sounds a lot like  c

DAILY ACTIVITIES

Use your whiteboard to practise writing the letter g  and  k on your whiteboard - don't forget to start at the side!!!

Use your finger to write the letter g  and  k on your mummy's back.

Use your finger to write the letter g  and  k in the air.

Look for things that have the g  and  k sound around your house - can you make a set of 'g  and  k' things?

If possible, make g  and  k with playdoh, long laces, string, counters - whatever you have!!!

WRITTEN ACTIVITIES in TSD BOOK

MONDAY --> Say each word.  Colour the pictures that begin with the  g  and  k sounds.  Trace the letters g  and  k with a writing pencil underneath.

WEDNESDAY --> Initial Sound Roll & Colour game

Use your yellow dice.  If you roll a 1 then colour in 'gold.'

If you roll a 2 then colour a 'goat' etc...  Be sure to 'SHARE YOUR LEARNING' by saying 'I got a 5... so I colour a goose.'

Continue until all pictures are coloured.

(Another way to play this game is with a partner.  Each player has their own coloured pencil.  When it is the roll and colour, use e.g. red and same for next player except they use e.g. green.  Play til all pictures coloured.  Calculate who won by counting how many of each colour. )

Can you make these words that have our new letter with your letter cards??

Each new word can be made by changing only 1 sound/letter starting from the original word as you move along.  This is called 'Word Generation' and is very important.  It is also great fun - the children begin to realise just how many new words they can make, read and write!!

After you have made the words with your letter cards, can you write them on your whiteboards??  I'll bet you can!!

Click on the link above and then Activity Book A - Unit 2 The Market to try these fantastic new activities to consolidate our learning of letter 'k'

This letter 'K' is looped but children should know different ways to form the letter and that they may see it like this in a book.
