Letter h is a TALL letter that sits on the line. It is a QUIET sound when you say it.
Letter 'h' starts at the top, down to the bottom (don't lift your pencil) back up half way from where you stated and bend over to the right and touch the line before you give a little flick and then STOP! (it is nearly like letter n except you start way up high.)
DAILY ACTIVITIES
Use your whiteboard to practise writing the letter r on your whiteboard - don't forget to start at the side!!!
Use your finger to write the letter h on your mummy's back.
Use your finger to write the letter h in the air.
Look for things that have the r sound around your house - can you make a set of 'h' things?
If possible, make h with playdoh, long laces, string, counters - whatever you have!!!
WRITTEN ACTIVITIES in TSD BOOK
MONDAY --> Say the h sound. Say each word. Match the pictures that begin with the
h sound to the big r.
WEDNESDAY --> Sound out each CVC word. Circle and colour the correct picture. Can
you write the word under the correct picture?
Can you make these words that have our new letter with your letter cards??
Each new word can be made by changing only 1 sound/letter starting from the original word as you move along. This is called 'Word Generation' and is very important. It is also great fun - the children begin to realise just how many new words they can make, read and write!!
hat - ham - had - hid - him - hip - hop
After you have made the words with your letter cards, can you write them on your whiteboards?? I'll bet you can!!
P1 children quite often confuse letters 'h' and 'n.'
This is very understandable as they LOOK so alike.
Letter 'h' is a TALL letter.
Letter 'n' is a FAT letter.
This is a simple VISUAL SORTING activity that may help.
